Kindermusik Frequently Asked Questions
We don’t expect them to! A few children ages 0-2 may stay seated in parent's laps, but we fully expect many of our Level 1 and Level 2 children to walk and explore - this is part of their learning process. Simply follow along with them and engage with them in the activity wherever they are. Parents often share with us that although they thought their little one wasn’t paying attention in class, at home they demonstrate new movements and skills they gained from Kindermusik!
Some children are observational learners. They may sit and watch much or even all of the time. As you participate in the activities they will reap benefits from seeing you, their most loved and important teacher, involved in the music and movement. In one of our classes a number of years ago there was a violin teacher who was committed to staying in Kindermusik even though her little girl in Level 1 and then Level 2 never wanted to do anything in class. However, when this little girl went home, she lined up her dolls and played Kindermusik. When she moved into a Level 3 class this child came out of her shell and became one of the most active children in the class. Parents tell us stories like this all the time. Whether your little one is an explorer, an observer or somewhere in between, rest assured the music and learning are coming through!
Not at all! Kindermusik is designed to nurture a love of music while supporting your child’s development in so many areas like listening, coordination, creativity, and social skills. Whether your child ends up playing an instrument or not, they’ll benefit from everything they learn in class. That said, many students do choose to continue their musical journey after Kindermusik by joining a group piano class, and we love helping them take that next step with confidence!
Yes! We welcome all children in our Kindermusik classes. While we don’t have formal special education training, we work closely with each child and family to help every little one feel supported and included. We’ve had the joy of working with children with a variety of needs and always do our best to create a warm, flexible environment where everyone can grow through music.
Yes, two very important ones. Walking feet and indoor voices. Exploration and moving about the classroom is expected. However, screaming is very disruptive and running in circles at full speed is dangerous. If your little one is running or screaming, we ask that you take them out into the hall for some cool down time and remind them of these two rules. Don't worry if you need to repeat this action a few times. We all have children, understand, and are on the same team. Relax and be consistent with your little one, and they will learn.
No, your child loves your voice, no matter what you or anyone else thinks of it. There is no singing judgement in our Kindermusik classroom. If you truly don't feel comfortable singing in class, you are welcome to hum or chant along, or somehow vocally participate with your little one, and then go try it at home.
No worries! We understand that things come up. If you need to miss a class, just head to the Members Hub tab on our website to cancel. When you do, you’ll receive a makeup credit that can be used to join a makeup class.
Yes! In classes where the children meet independently with the teacher for the majority of the class, siblings are welcome to join when we bring parents in for the last 10-15 minutes of sharing time. We have a fully equipped waiting room so parents and younger children can wait while the older children enjoy their class.
Kindermusik Foundations classes are designed to give you and your baby special one-on-one time together. It’s an intentional space where you can really focus on bonding and connecting with your little one.
That said, we know life with multiple kiddos can be a juggling act so we’re happy to offer free childcare for older siblings during Foundations classes!
If you’re looking for a shared experience the whole family can enjoy, we also offer Mixed-Age classes where babies, toddlers, and older children can participate together. In those classes, siblings under one year are welcome to join for free.
In fact, the opposite is true! Consistency is your best friend when starting something new. Children need this consistency in times of change. With life getting busier, and your child’s activities more independent in nature, Kindermusik is one place the two of you can spend time focused on each other in a familiar and warm environment.
You may join at anytime. Your enrollment fee will be pro-rated if you join after the start of a month so you won't pay for any classes held prior to the day you enrolled. Kindermusik classes run year-round, with breaks only when our school is closed for holidays.
