Ensembles in Grants Pass
An ensemble gives students a place to meet and play with other young musicians—a community that works together to make music none of them could create alone. As they play with others, they gain confidence and learn skills that private lessons simply can't teach, including listening to one another, staying together in time, matching tone and dynamics, and performing as a unified ensemble.
Students provide their own instrument beginning on the first day.
Instrument rentals are available through Great Northwest Music.
Beginner String Orchestra (ages 9+):
Our Beginner String Orchestra is a class for absolute beginners who want to learn violin, viola, or cello. Each week they will learn the fundamentals of string playing, including body positioning, bowing, playing from memory, reading sheet music, and music theory. In this supportive group environment, students can build confidence quickly. As they progress, they'll add simple string ensemble arrangements to their unison pieces.

String Quartet (ages 10+ who can sight read in 1st position):
Our String Quartet is for those who are ready to move beyond playing their instrument alone. Here, students step into chamber music—the small-ensemble tradition at the heart of string playing. Each week they develop the skills of quartet playing that go beyond private lessons, including blending across four independent parts, matching tone and bowing, holding their own line while three others hold theirs, and learning to listen, lead, and follow without a conductor.
