Southern Oregon School of Music is looking for an enthusiastic, skilled piano teacher to join our teaching team.

We’re looking for a musician who loves piano, enjoys working with students, and finds it rewarding to help young people grow through music. This position includes both private piano lessons and group piano classes, giving you the opportunity to teach students in both individual and collaborative settings.

Whether you are an experienced teacher or a talented pianist who is ready to take the next step in teaching, we’ll provide the training and support you need to succeed.

What You'll Do

• Teach piano lessons and classes to students of varying ages and abilities.

• Help students develop strong foundations in piano technique, music reading, rhythm, theory, sight-reading, ear training, and musicianship.

• Use our proven group piano methods and curriculum while bringing your own musical personality and enthusiasm to each class. Curriculum training is provided.  For private lessons, you will work with the director to determine which piano method series you will use.

• Create positive, encouraging learning environments where students feel successful.

• Prepare students for recitals, performances, and other opportunities to share their music.

• Participate in school events.

• Communicate positively and professionally with students and families.

• Work collaboratively with the Southern Oregon School of Music team; attend monthly Saturday morning team meetings.

​Qualifications Required

• Formal piano training

• Ability to play at a late intermediate/advanced level

• Ability to sight read the music your students will play in beginner to intermediate levels

• A strong understanding of music theory and musicianship

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Positive, encouraging, and engaging personality

• Dependable and professional, with the ability to work well with students, parents, and a teaching team
   

Preferred

• Previous piano teaching experience.  For the right candidate with significant education and/or performance experience, we will provide teacher training.

• Performance and/or accompanying experience

• Experience working with children

• Experience with a variety of musical styles

• Students arrive and stay. Families who come to us through Kindermusik at age 4 are still here in youth choir and band at age 12, so you build long-term teaching relationships.

• Colleagues, not just coworkers. We have teachers across Kindermusik, piano, strings, voice, guitar, bass, drums, and sax. Collaborate on a duet, sit in on a colleague's ensemble, refer a student who wants a second instrument, or just swap notes over coffee.

 

Position Details

• Part-time

• Flexible teaching schedule based on availability and student enrollment

• Opportunity for additional teaching hours as enrollment grows

• Participate in recitals, performances, and school events

• Pay: $26.00 - $32.00 per hour
