Are you a musician who loves working with young children?

 

Southern Oregon School of Music is looking for a musician with experience working with young children who would love the opportunity to become part of something special—and help us grow our Kindermusik program.

 

If you love music, enjoy being around young children, and have a natural ability to engage and encourage them, this could be a wonderful opportunity to combine two things you love. We will provide the Kindermusik training and curriculum. 

 

About Kindermusik

Kindermusik classes introduce young children to the joy of music through singing, movement, rhythm, instruments, stories, and creative play. Classes are designed to be a fun and meaningful musical experience for both children and their families.

 

As a Kindermusik Teacher, you'll have the opportunity to help children grow in confidence, coordination, communication, creativity, and musical awareness—all while having a great time together.

 

What You'll Do

• Lead engaging music-and-movement classes for young children and their caregivers

• Sing, play instruments, move, and use music creatively to engage young children

• Follow the Kindermusik curriculum while bringing your own musical personality and enthusiasm to each class

• Create a warm, positive classroom where children feel comfortable participating and exploring

• Encourage children and celebrate their accomplishments

• Build positive relationships with children and parents

• Prepare for classes and maintain an organized, inviting classroom

• Communicate professionally and positively with families

• Work as part of the Southern Oregon School of Music team

• Complete Kindermusik training and participate in ongoing professional development

 

You Might Be Our Next Kindermusik Teacher If...

• You're a musician.

• Music is an important part of who you are.

• You have experience with young children. You may have worked in childcare, preschool, children's programs, camps, schools, churches, or another setting where you've spent significant time interacting with young children.

• You genuinely enjoy children. You understand that working with little ones requires patience, enthusiasm, flexibility, and a good sense of humor.

• You're comfortable singing. Singing is a major part of Kindermusik, so you should enjoy using your voice as part of your musical expression.

• You're excited to be part of growing something special. We’re looking for someone who will become passionate about Kindermusik and will participate in outreach activities to help the program grow.

• You're dependable and professional. Families are counting on you to be prepared, positive, and consistent.

• You enjoy working with parents, too. Kindermusik classes involve both children and their caregivers, so building positive relationships with families is an important part of the position.

 

Qualifications Required

• Strong musical background as a vocalist and/or instrumentalist

• Demonstrated experience working with young children

• Comfortable singing in a group setting and leading musical activities

• Warm, energetic, and engaging personality

• Dependable and professional

 

Preferred

Kindermusik or music-teaching experience is a plus, but not required. Training will be provided for the right musician with experience working with young children

Position Details

• Part-time: Initially for 2-5 hours per week, Tuesday-Friday between 1 and 6 pm.  Opportunity for additional hours will increase as the program grows. 

• Pay: From $26.00 per hour

• Benefits: Discounted classes and lessons for yourself or family members

• Work Location: Southern Oregon School of Music, 141 NW C Street in Grants Pass, Oregon

• Kindermusik training provided

• Opportunity to also teach piano or other instruments within the school for qualified candidates
